Para•Clear® D290 - Paraffin Dispersant

DESCRIPTION

Para-Clear dispersants are second generation products that are gaining widespread acceptance. Compared to solvents or hot oiling they represent a completely different concept in paraffin removal. The material as sold is mixed 3 - 15% by volume with water; therefore, water makes up the majority of the final treatment.

APPLICATION

Para-Clear dispersant treatments are no harder to design than a solvent or hot oil treatment. Generally the procedure is as follows:

1) Leave standing fluid in the well.

2) Mix a 3-10% D290 solution in fresh water.

3) Pump into the casing annulus; however, the treatment should not be pumped into the tubing.

4) Take the well off production cycle for 12 to 24 hours letting the treatment fluid gravity into the perforations.

5) Pump the normal clock cycle or longer to completely pump out treatment.

6) The paraffin will separate from the treatment in the stock tank.

The shut-in time in step #4 can be modified depending on the depth of the tubing string and where the paraffin deposits are occurring. D290 can be fed neat to wells producing both water and oil.

ADVANTAGES

The effectiveness of all dispersants is based on surface-active chemistry, which provides numerous advantages over solvents and other methods of paraffin control. D290 is unique compared to other dispersants. It contains synergistic blends of surfactants, amines, alcohols and dials. ParaClear D290 not only penetrates and disperses paraffin, but also isolates the paraffin molecules by forming a coating around them, which inhibits their growth. D290 also contains more aggressive solvents and a copolymer paraffin dispersant.

  • Greater paraffin removal than solvents.
  • Penetrates paraffin deposits.
  • Water-based treatments.
  • Will gravity through standing oil.
  • Water-based treatments dissolve salt.
  • Inhibits paraffin buildup by leaving the tubulars water-wet.
  • Surface equipment is stripped as the treatment is pumped to the stock tank.
  • Since water is the main ingredient once mixed, dispersant treatments are safer.
  • Less cost than other chemical methods since water is 90% of the treatment.
